I was Petrified (Day 3)

Damn bait-click tag lines!! Sorry, I had to do it, it was just too easy….

So today was the adventure of Albuquerque, NM to Flagstaff, AZ. This was about a 5 hour drive or so.

The drive was a bit of a long one today for baby O. We had to work a little harder today to keep him happy. A concoction of cheese sticks (ColbyJack), oranges, water (which he just gargled and spit all over himself, leading him to be more frustrated), stories and PBJ sandwiches were what kept this train on schedule. Dre was great. All we needed was a movie and an iPAD for him.

Here is a sample of our drive:

We had the privilege of going to the Petrified Forest National Park. Our first National Park and the only National Park along Route 66. In the featured image at the top of the page, you will see what looks like a tree trunk. It is a tree trunk that is about 225 million years old and has actually turned to stone. It was freaking amazing, and we really enjoyed this park. It was just beautiful, and it was just a beautiful day.

Dre received a very special honor today as a Junior Park Ranger! Thanks to our friends, Red and Sharon, who informed us about the Ranger programs at National Parks and the Passport stamps!

We were very proud of Andre! He was super-duper excited about his badges. He proceeded to tell strangers in the park about his badges and that he is a Junior Ranger.

We drove the rest of the way to Flagstaff and had dinner at this great place called Fat Olives. Owen enjoyed the food so much he wanted to eat the table as well….or maybe he was just enjoying something he knew Mommy wasn’t too excited about.

Finally we ended the night at our cabin where I started my first fire by myself with actual logs and some scrap paper. I may or may not have used a lighter.

TIP #2 – When going on a long road trip like this, be sure to bring a collapsable/portable highchair seat. Obviously this cabin does not have one, but I brought a collapsable one that hangs on the table, and it is working great!
