How to Eat Steak (Day 1)

Today was a perfect example of what a road trip should be. We packed the minivan to the brink of capacity with hopefully all essentials, however I’m pretty confident that the portable rocking chair is not an essential item. Either way, we got all the bags in and were ready to roll.

The boys ate their breakfast as usual…

After clean up time, we hit the road ahead of schedule and made our first stop to Wallyworld to return half of the groceries Jeffrey bought for the trip the day prior.

TIP #1 – Don’t purchase too much snack food for the vehicle…

I had sent Jeff on a mission to get some snacks for the van while we are driving and he came back with an entire grocery run. He explained that there isn’t much food in National Parks and I kindly reminded him that we won’t be in a National Park camping with Bear Grylls, we will be in hotels near food and water and people and stuff.

We made our first stop in Clinton, OK! We went to the Water Zoo and it was awesome. There were a lot of slides for Dre’s age (not too small and not too big – Goldilock Style). We played in the lazy river and got the kiddos all tuckered out for the long leg to Amarillo, TX.

We got to the Homewood Suites which is currently under construction but we got to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms and it was great! After checking out the room, we decided to go to the Big Texan Restaurant. It was a great experience because Jeffrey decided to take the 72 oz Steak Challenge!!!!

Sadly he did not earn his free steak but 30+ oz of steak, salad, potato and shrimp later, I would say it was a successful meal. Plus, while Jeff tackled the biggest steak we have ever seen, the kiddos and I enjoyed some Texas sized dessert. All-in-all, it was a great day!

What a great start! We have been to the water park in Clinton and it is so true that those slides are the best side for 3-5 year olds. Carter loved them. Best of luck on Day 2!!

Nice pic Jeffrey. I have personally decided to never do giant steak or hamburger challenges in this lifetime.
